It either looks like a 997 Series Porsche 911 or a first generation Porsche Cayman.

So I finally got around to taking my 8 out to an event, I usually run our Lemons Mustang or one of my buddy's cars. I'm definitely looking to get the alignment sorted out before the next event, I was having mad understeer problems and ended up getting it kind of fixed through tire pressure but that's not the right way to do it. I'm running 245/40/18's the whole way around(Federal 595SS's up front and Conti ExtremeContact DWS's in the back), from what I understand the Federal's should have more grip than the Conti's so I don't think that's the source of my issue... And the Federal's have less than 5k miles on them while the Conti's are pretty old. I guess my questions really come down to what mods do you have(I'm in STX as well because of springs and no cats) and would you be willing to share any alignment goals?

In general, the solution to banishing understeer in autocross in an FR car is to add front camber/caster, and run the stickiest tires possible. I'm currently running on 265/35/18 Dunlop Z2, which have retarded amounts of grip. If you want to be competitive in STX, you'll need to upgrade to either the Dunlop Z2, BF Goodrich Rival, Hankook RS3, or Advan AD08. Try to stick to the minimum STX legal treadwear.

I just dug up my current alignment specs for you:

Front: camber -2.6, caster 7.9, toe -.08

Rear: camber -2.4, toe 0.00

On these settings The car has no understeer whatsoever, with mild exit oversteer. Turn in ability is pretty insane for a car that weighs 2800 lbs, thanks to the double-wishbone front suspension!

My current suspension upgrades include Bilstein PSS9s with stiffer Evo 9 front springs, and Progress front and rear adjustable anti-sway bars.

Take all of this with a grain of salt. On the national level I always get owned by a sizeable margin, but locally I'm usually the fastest by quite a bit in Street Touring.

Thanks for being so open and willing to share.

And I'm not used to actually having things I can adjust, so the alignment game is new to me. I know all too well that tires make a huge difference, but I'm not looking to drop coin on that type if thing right now. Those camber/caster numbers look to be more than what a lot of people seem to be able to get with stock parts(if the forums are anything to go by). I was going to shoot for as much camber as I could get on the front without eliminating caster too horribly then just do the rear at about 80% of whatever I ended up on the front. Have you tried other toe options or did you just stick with what worked? I've heard that zero toe front and back is liked in some circles... With those springs how much of a drop are you running? I'm on Tein H-techs and only have about .4" drop.

I'd love to get some parts in this thing and really open it up, the Progress sways have been on my wishlist since day one, but for the moment I want to just get it to a point where it doesn't feel like I'm fighting the car around the course. It's kind of sad when the $400 Foxbody is actually more fun at an autocross. Also, are those wheels stock width? 265 seems like a lot of tire without more wheel.

As far as alignment goes, I honestly just took a stab in the dark with the current setup and did some minor tweaking. I really like how it behaves on grippy surfaces.

The wheels are 18x8.5 +25, so the tire is slightly wider than the rim as you can see in the pictures. The wider track might also contribute to better turn-in ability, but I honestly have no idea. I'm obviously going for form=function with that offset. I really like the look of the wider, aggressive stance.

I'm not sure about the exact drop since they're fully adjustable. Before I was using Eibach springs with Bilstein HD struts, and the rear end felt too loose and sloppy with the soft spring rates and OEM spec dampers. Here are some pictures of how it currently sits on the PSS9s:

I forgot to mention the side effect of running that much front camber with negative toe. Freeway driving is now pretty absurd. The car will NOT track in a straight line. It darts left and right depending on ruts in the pavement. At first I thought my toe links were going bad, but they're actually fine.

It's a small price to pay though for this kind of cornering ability.
